Hey! I’m Emem, your future friend and a passionate Jesus lover. About fifteen years ago, I went through the most tormenting season of my life — I could not sleep.
Night after night my mind raced. I was anxious and terrified. Nothing I tried worked — not teas, not medicine, not routines, not forcing myself to ‘just relax.’ I felt helpless, hopeless, exhausted, and honestly… I felt like I was going crazy.
Through the help of the Holy Spirit, I finally realized that peace had already been given to me — and the enemy had stolen it.
I learned how to stand in my spiritual authority and take my peace back. With the truth of God’s Word and the authority He gave me, I went from hopeless, afraid, and mentally exhausted to restored in peace, anchored in joy, renewed in my mind, and sleeping sweetly.

Often times, on the road to pursuing purpose we are faced with hardships and difficulties -- this is a given. However, for a person of color like myself, I have found the challenges to be even more difficult because sometimes depending on the environment, circumstance, and people we encounter, racism is added to the mix. What do you do when you are a person of color pursuing purpose in a field where you are often the only person of color in the room? How do you react when you are unfairly treated and the racism is blatant? How can you survive in such an environment? How can you stay encouraged to keep pursuing purpose under such circumstances? Of course I don’t have all the answers but I hope this episode is a spark for conversation and more importantly a shift in perspective.

As the year dwindled away, I felt a great deal of disappointment. What happened to my 2017?! -- I would ask myself. I so greatly believed this year was going to be my best year yet. I mean… I did the whole mental visualization and mission statements thing that all the greats say they do right before they encounter breakthrough. As I reflected over my year, it turned out to be nothing I envisioned but truthfully, it turned out to be everything I NEEDED it to be.
